VEJ provides guidance and information for foreign teachers regarding entry visas to Vietnam, explaining the main options and answering related inquiries.
Types of entry visas for foreign teachers
- LD1/LD2 – Work visa: Issued to foreign teachers working in Vietnam, valid for up to 2 years (subject to a work permit or work permit exemption).
- TT – Dependent visa: Issued to spouses and children of foreign teachers holding valid visas or residence cards, valid for up to 2 years (but not longer than the teacher’s visa/permit).
- DL – Tourist visa: For short-term entry, valid for up to 90 days.
Visa exemption
- Vietnam currently grants visa-free entry to citizens of 25 countries, mainly ASEAN members and several countries in Europe and Asia. The exemption period ranges from 14 to 90 days depending on nationality.
- Note: Family members of exempt travelers are not automatically visa-exempt. Dependents must apply for the appropriate visa (usually a TT visa) unless they also hold an exempt nationality.
